MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT OF THE IEC NATIONAL COMMITTEE OF BELARUS
Dear Colleagues and Friends!

On behalf of the IEC National Committee and the State Committee for Standardization of the Republic of Belarus I am happy to welcome you to the 79th IEC General Meeting in Minsk!

IEC activities today create the basis for technical progress in many sectors of the economy. Voluntary, consensus-based International Standards and efficient IEC Conformity Assessment tools promote international trade and enable the transfer of new technologies.

The Republic of Belarus has been a full and active member of the IEC since 1993. We participate in the work of a number of technical committees and contribute to the implementation of various projects.

The IEC General Meeting in Minsk is being held under two main themes: «Smarter use of energy: improving people’s lives» and «Unified Requirements & Conformity Assessment — key drivers for world trade».

Consistent work by theinternational community in these directions is important for dynamic development of global trade based on mutual trust, sustainability of national economies and raising the quality of people’s lives. We hope that the IEC General Meeting in Minsk will further stimulate a systems approach for smart energy and motivate engineering schools to develop new energy saving technologies.

We are ready to demonstrate to the participants of the IEC General Meeting our investment expectationsand anticipations and to convince you that our country
is a valid partner in the production of modern electrical and electronic products.

We are sure that this will be an efficient and memorable event and look forward to welcoming you in Belarus, a country with a rich history and a vibrant technological future.

Victor NAZARENKO,
President of the IEC National Committee
and of the State Committee for Standardization of the Republic of Belarus
